6. Nobody Cares Enough

It's surprising how many condo homeowners don't care about attending any HOA meetings. I serve as one of three board members and the third spot remains vacant due to no candidates interested to run for that seat. Our quarterly Zoom meetings rarely have anyone attending so we barely have a quorum with only two board members and the property management representative attending. The thing that does get attention is when we vote for a dues increase or special assessment. Folks seem to lose sight of what it takes to properly maintain the common areas of our homes. Plumbing and roofing issues need fixing and they don't come cheap but some people complain about the expense being unnecessary. One owner even complained about our roofing funding by saying that his roof doesn't leak. He really thinks the roof above him shared by all neighboring condos is separate and not subject to leaking. So let's not pay for any repairs and let the building collapse so it costs even more to fix. Pennywise and pound foolish.
