Grant was a bit too loyal, if anything. Native Americans came to know him as the only President of the 19th century who tried to treat them well. He was a very interesting man.

It was also a time of corruption. Hayes was worse than Grant. Garfield was shot by a disgruntled office-seeker. Chet Arthur was a tool of Tammany Hall.

No one in American history is anywhere near as openly corrupt as Trump.
