Voters to decide at least three abortion-related ballot measures in 2026 [View all]

n 2026, voters will decide three ballot measures related to abortion policy in Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia. Additional measures could qualify for the ballot in Colorado and Idaho.

Two out of the three abortion-related ballot measures would provide for the constitutional right to an abortion. In Nevada, voters will decide Question 6, which would provide for a state constitutional right to an abortion. In Virginia, voters will decide on a constitutional amendment that would establish a state constitutional right to reproductive freedom, defined as "the right to make and effectuate one's own decisions about all matters related to one's pregnancy."

In Missouri, voters will decide Amendment 3, which would repeal the constitutional right to reproductive freedom that voters approved in 2024, prohibit abortion in most cases, and ban surgical procedures for transgender minors.

The Missouri and Virginia measures were placed on the ballot by the state legislature. The Nevada measure was placed on the ballot through a successful citizen initiative. For Nevada voters, this will be the second time they have decided this amendment—in Nevada, citizen-initiated constitutional amendments must be approved in two even-numbered election years. In 2024, Nevada voters approved the amendment by 64.4% to 35.6%.
