I first saw it on the Armed Forces Network while I was stationed in Germany. My roommate and I were watching TV one afternoon and 'Dark Star' came on. We were rolling on the floor. When I later learned the history of that film I realized how much of a (relatively unknown) classic this actually was.

After the first showing on AFN, it came on again a short time later, and Jay turned on his VCR - a super-early model with rotary tuner. We had guys from all over the dorm in the room watching it on that tape for at least a couple of weeks, with word-of-mouth going strong.
