Look at the faces of the white people. That, my friends, is H.A.T.E. It is pure hate. And I bet a month's pay every white face in the picture was in (Baptist) church the next Sunday.

I know. I was born in 1944 in a crossroads cotton-picking Mississippi village. When I was 12, the preacher at our Slouthern Baptist church preached a sermon in response to continuing federal efforts to enforce Brown v Board of Education. The preacher said: "The lie that n####r boys should go to school with our little white girls is the vilest lie Satan has put on this earth!!" And the congregation replied: "AMEN!!"

Even at age 12 I was a bit unsettled by that. At age 18 I left Mississippi and never looked back.

I go home occasionally for funerals and have gone for two weddings. Nothing has changed. N.O.T.H.I.N.G.
