not knowing she was there. Her body was found in the back seat. Mary Jo had left her purse at the party.

And then when he went off the bridge and into the water, he left the car because he had been drinking. He went back to his hotel. He didn't find out Mary Jo had been in the car until the next day, when they pulled the car out of the pond.

There are many books that document the goings on that night which don't match up with the official story. I've read a few of them - some may be out of print.

I believe, that the next day when Mary Jo's body was found, Ted's "handlers" took over and started spinning an "official story" that was worse than the truth.
