But I take a longer view of what has happened in the United States. Remember the simple farmers who fought in the Revolution to gain our freedom from England. Remember the men from both the North and South who fought in the Civil war. One of the most touching things I ever saw was the civil war cemetery in Dover, Tennessee. Just watch the documentaries about the landing on Omaha beach, such a great loss of life, it brings tears to my eyes. I feel nothing but admiration for the men who fought there My uncle was in the terrible Battle of the Bulge and would never talk about it. What bravery they showed, just plain everyday men who left their homes to fight for their country. When you think about the lives lost defending our country, how can you not place your hand over your heart to honor these brave souls?
