Maybe he thought he'd be accepted better at technology companies if it looked as if he'd been interested in computing right from his teens (which, of course, Jobs and Gates clearly were - too interested in new developments to spend time in traditional universities).

Replacing him with the man who purchased MySpace doesn't look like a world-beating move, I have to say.
