She didn’t know any better. In fact, when she told me about it in her 20s she still blamed herself. I had to explain to her that there were no circumstances where it made it OK for a 26 year old man to have sex with her when she was 13. That it was rape no matter what. Don’t matter if she was flirty. Didn’t matter that she looked older than her age. Didn’t matter that she trusted him. He took advantage of her and it was in fact statutory rape.

It messed her up something awful. She ended up stripping and dating a guy twice her age who got her into hard drugs. Jail saved her life because it sobered her up.

She’s now married to a pastor of a different church that’s not crazy. They have two beautiful daughters. Seems to be doing well. Still has relationships with her parents.
