24. There is a lot of that type of 'parenting' going on.

Dads insecurity about their own masculinity, worried that their sons' perceived femininity will reflect poorly back on the father.
The kid may well have had a chance to grow up decently and break that cycle -- but dad threw in the macho gun to make sure that never happened.
