(31,824 posts)At least that's how it was when I had kids. My husband and son did it with both. My son earned his Boy Scouts "shooting badge". He also did it with 4-H. This was in the late 90's. Hubby thinks it was before Columbine, but it was late 90's.
They did targets and hubby said they used 22's. Son didn't advance in either program, and stopped when he was around 12.
We did not have guns in the house.
They did learn gun safety etc.
I did not like it!!!
I don't know if they still have the badges and programs, because of all the school shootings. Or if they have modified their programs due to all the school shootings.
Yes, my son was one of those kids who was not doing well in traditional sports. (He would be sidelined in soccer and little league) Shooting is considered more of an "individual sport" as opposed to a "team sport".
