2. It's pretty sickening, but it's what the news media has turned into.

"Infotainment" is the currency of the realm, now. Newsrooms and news divisions have to show a profit now and, with the demise of classified advertising in newspapers and its accompanying revenue, it's all about garnering clicks and views with people who have been exposed to little more than breathless announcements of "you won't believe what happens next!!111!111!!!"
