In reply to the discussion: Tony Hinchcliffe doubles down on racist Trump rally jokes and hits out at critics: 'Change your tampon' [View all]forgotmylogin
(7,740 posts)I am a man and I do have a sense of humor. The problem isn't a lack of humor, the problem is that he's an alleged comedian who doesn't know how to read a room. A good comedian would have clocked the tepid response to the Puerto Rico jab and pivoted to talking about how old Joe Biden is. You had a room that wanted to hear the oldies and then maybe dip a bit blue with Hunter's cock. You save your best incel and racial material for podcasting with Elon Musk or Joe Rogan who are the correct audience for that.
Hinchcliffe asking the world to change their metaphorical tampon (surely he doesn't mean just women) means "something's wrong with you; it's not my fault you don't find me funny." If I change my metaphorical tampon I'll feel better and giggle and think that joke was funny Nope. Madison Square Garden, allegedly near-capacity with Republicans and rightwing MAGA in your favor didn't laugh.
He worked on that island of garbage joke opener. It's a level one "bait and switch" joke format that would be funny if you filled in the mad-lib cleverly. The joke was just wrong, and he said it: Puerto Rico is awesome, but racism is not. He was very proud of that. Good comedians know you don't punch down - not as the first joke. And you don't laugh in frustration at your own joke if you truly believe you were funny. What a chance of a lifetime he had at Madison Square Garden at an official event and walks out making jokes like he's on a podcast with Joe Rogan and Elon Musk. A good comedian would have been better at reading the room and could have recovered.
Unless Hinchcliffe thought he was the warmup comedian and he wouldn't be broadcast. Still no excuse for sucking at your art.
