I just finished reading a book, 1491 (https://www.amazon.com/1491-Revelations-Americas-Before-Columbus/dp/1400032059 ), which while extremely readable provides a great depth and breadth of info about pre-Columbian peoples, politics, and cultures in the Americas.

These populations and civilizations were far more populous and sophisticated than I think most of us realize.
