9. It didn't work for the Japanese, and without China's help North Korea would have been defeated.

China's advance succeeded only because of an overwhelming number of troops. They did catch the US by surprise, though, crossing the Yalu River secretly before attacking. 400,000 Chinese “volunteers” died and another 400,000+ were wounded, according to Western sources.
