In reply to the discussion: Black boxes from South Korea plane crash failed to record final 4 minutes: Officials [View all]mn9driver
(4,639 posts)16. My understanding is that after the initial go around
they didnt land for another 45 minutes or so. If they somehow lost normal power, the recorders would have died when the batteries did. Questions they need to answer include:
-Why did they remain airborne for so long after the initial event?
-Was there a total loss of generator power? Was there an attempt to start the APU? If not, why not?
-Was there an attempt to lower the gear? Using normal or emergency procedures? Same question for the flaps? Was hydraulic power available at all? Were the flight controls in manual reversion mode?
These are all questions the FDR and the CVR will be able to answer despite losing power at the end. Its a head scratcher. Ill wait for the data before I try to solve this one.

OP
S. Korean's probably deleted last 4 minutes then sent to NTSB afterwards. Whoops.

Are you saying there is no possible way to have removed the data then damaged it so the NTSB could repair it afterwards

If all that you have is the battery that last thing you want to do is try and start the APU.

From what i have read the black boxes are not on the short list of the things the batteries power

Don't think it will be a manufacturer issue in this case, more like pilot error
