My youngest nieces and nephews will do a few brief "written" texts but they MOSTLY forward me video memes to describe their "take" on certain subjects - and that includes "politics". It's literally like the video becomes an "analogy" that best describes their perspectives of "current events".
They have evolved to be very "visual" and seem to need to include the full "experience" of what they are thinking beyond words on a page - they want the "emotion", the facial expressions, the movements, to underscore what they are thinking. I suppose it's compensation for their lack of discussions "in person" that they barely do - EVEN when with a group of their friends. I have been in the midst of maybe half a dozen teens all together in my sister's livingroom and ALL on their phones - with little actual interaction between them despite them sitting next to each other. That is because they are "expressing themselves" through other types of symbolism - using their phones.
The older Millennials are more "verbose" with the texts but not the younger generations and very few post on discussion boards like this nor even use email. Forget newspapers. Those are anachronisms to them.
It's the most bizarre thing but that is what they do.
