They are led by Quisling administrators and governed by comfortable idealists. The only sustainable revolutionary element (adjuncts and grad students) are bought off year by year, and have mostly accepted management paternalism rather than actual labor struggle, which was defeated through concerted intervention by union breaking law firms and vicious admins.

The fact that Trump managed to have a vice provost installed over the Center for Palestinian Studies at the institution where Edward Said spent his career is telling. It's a shocking abrogation of the basic principles of academic freedom, but it's where we are now.
