My Irish family really were funloving. My dad's side
were fun too, but they were Protestant and very
racist.

If it weren't for my mother, I'd probably be a Magat.

My Irish ancestors were the Dore's, from Drumcollagher,
Limerick.

They came here in 1849, and eventually ended up in
Nebraska where my Irish grandmother met my German
grandfather.

The Dores were fun but his side wasn't. And the Dore
women were forces to be reckoned with. One was the
first woman to run for public office in Nebraska.

Me and my sisters take after the Dore sisters. My brothers
take after the boys, who were not so successful and
they all died unnatural deaths. My great grandfather
was an Indian Agent in Oklahoma and was killed by
a drunk Indian, and I'm sure he probably deserved it
because he was basically a jerk. Those girls were great,
though.

Anyway, one of my mom's cousins, Pat McGerr, daughter
of one of the Dore sisters, became a successful mystery
writer and wrote a book called The Seven Deadly Sisters
(my grandmothers' aunts).

I read it a few years ago. It's dated and kind of cheesy,
but it was fun to read it.
