MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Eleven people were injured Saturday night after a person opened fire on North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach before being shot and killed by police.

According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers responded to the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard about a disturbance involving multiple people. Police said that at one point during an altercation, an individual began firing a weapon.

A Myrtle Beach Police Officer returned fire, killing the individual. The officer was not hurt during the incident. The man killed has been identified as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville, S.C., according to WBTW News 13.

"Our officer saw what happened, and when he saw that an altercation was taking place and a gun was being shot, the officer responded very quickly and in my opinion, saved lives,” Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard told WBTW. “Last night could have been so much worse.”
