but I see now what I didn't before.....dealerships can actually help protect consumers.

Hear me out. They provide a layer of customer service that is lacking in a direct to factory model.

When something goes wrong they're there to advocate for their customers.

Not that there aren't bad dealers but ideally you'd have options to pick another within a reasonable distance if you were unhappy with your first choice. Not so with the direct to factory model.
