The point is to track what is going on to save as documentation for use in future hearings, as well as to determine what adverse actions may need to be reversed. It is part of the "oversight" role that Congress is supposed to carry out, and in this case, to do what the GOP members have avoided doing, where the latter have chosen to go after manufactured demons - "Democrats".
