In reply to the discussion: Tulsi Gabbard calls for Obama to be prosecuted over 2016 election claims [View all]snot
(11,711 posts)31. Sorry but the Steele Dossier was funded by Democratic groups; see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steele_dossier ; "the Associated Press (AP) contributed to confusion about its funding..., so the AP posted a correction the next day: "Though the former spy, Christopher Steele, was hired by a firm that was initially funded by the Washington Free Beacon, he did not begin work on the project until after Democratic groups had begun funding it."[53]"[53] (citations omitted)
https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/30/politics/clinton-dnc-steele-dossier-fusion-gps/ : "Federal election regulators fined Hillary Clintons 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee earlier this month for not properly disclosing the money they spent on controversial opposition research that led to the infamous Trump-Russia [Steele] dossier. ... More than $1 million flowed from the Clinton campaign and DNC to the law firm Perkins Coie, which then hired the opposition research company Fusion GPS. That company later hired Steele and asked him to use his overseas contacts to dig up dirt about Trumps ties to Russia."
Also, it does not appear to me that many people here have actually read the info accompanying Gabbard's announcement; for that, see https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/DIG/DIG-Russia-Hoax-Memo-and-Timeline_revisited.pdf .
Imho there are many and far better grounds for condemning Trump than the "Russiagate" theory; e.g., he should have been impeached during his first term under the Emoluments clause.
As for Obama, I hope he will respond in a straightforward manner to explain the documents Gabbard is relying on and effectively dispute her charges.

Former President Obama is immune to prosecution for any official acts that he performed during his presidency.
