I remember the days when itinerant pitchers could find a job in a small town with a baseball team. One guy, with a wicked curve ball, a wife and baby, moved in next door for a summer. He bagged groceries during the day.
Jim Bouton and Bill Lee, part of the Truth and Reconciliation movement of the late 60's and early 70's, should have made baseball more relevant, more inclusive and more fun. Sadly, like everything else, corporate-ization became the preferred model.
