BTW, Oakland Raiders defensive back Jack Tatum, playing in a 1978 pre-season game with the New England Patriots, collided with wide receiver Daryl Stingley, who spent the rest of his life as a quadriplegic.
Raiders coach John Madden raced to the hospital after the game & found himself to be the lone visitor at the hospital.
No one from the New England Patriots was there.
Madden became a close friend of Stingley, as did Oakland Raiders offensive guard Gene Upshaw.
