189. We did all our shopping in Tennessee either in Clarksville or Nashville
Fri Dec 5, 2025, 01:29 AM
Dec 2025

Clarksville had these old timey stores, 3 or 4 stories tall with the pneumatic tube to send the money up to the office.
There were two of them I can only remember one of them McNeal and Edwards.

Nashville had Harvey's, Castner Knott and Cain Sloan's

I Cain Sloan is now Dillard's and Castner's was also bought by Dillard's Both of the downtown locations have now been closed. Harvey's closed in 1984.
I used to love being in downtown Nashville during the holidays. Cain Sloan covered their windows until after Thanksgiving when they would raise the drapery to expose the special window decorations. They had the best windows.

The closest town to us had a Ben Franklin and Bentley's 5 & Dime which is where we kids actually shopped.
