8. I'm hoping some strays show up like they usually do every year at the farm.

Then the fun begins. Sardines in the trap, etc. If the coyotes don't get them. I will. Then I go from there.

One year, I had eight. All but one made it. I fed it kitty formula every few hours for a few days, but it passed away.

Law of the jungle. You learn it fast in the country. I kept one. The rest went to neighbors. For some reason, the queens, aka mama cats, love one of my barns.

That one, a male grey and white boots tabby I raised by hand. Named him Sweetie. And he was. One day, he just disappeared.

Coyotes, probably. Or a snake bite. I have rattlesnakes & copperheads. Keeps me vigilant.

I spent most of Saturday clearing out leaf litter, which I try to leave as long as possible for the critters who need it this time of year.

But the snakes will be out soon if they aren't already. The seasons have been so unpredictable that it's difficult to depend on the usual rhythms of life on the farm anymore.

One thing that you can bet on is that kittens are coming. 🤞😻
