John was going in another direction as he didn't find commercial success to be what he expected. Yoko Ono was an artist, which John was before The Beatles. He identified with her as finding expression in his mind and his soul.

And he was happy on his own terms.

No, they didn't have a perfect relationship, but they gave each other contentment.

With her, John became a better father to Julian and a devoted father to Sean.
