2. Deep South Texas is a great place to be for Spring migratory

birding. Hell, it's pretty great year round with so many wildlife preserves. Right now is prime time for viewing whooping cranes (still endangered) in the Aransas salt marshes. It's a great place to start a life list.

The crested caracara isn't always in the south Texas valley, but is usually found further north in the coastal bend. It's a more interesting looking raptor.
