3. the time of daytime soap operas

is long past.

These daytime programs were very popular when households were single income entities. Since the mid 1970s and on, with more and more women working, the daytime soap opera has been on a decline. The days of high single/low double digit ratings (and subsequent advertising dollars) are gone.

Of the 4 remaining daytime soaps, Days of Our Lives has been in 4th place (or last place) since 2011.

The next soap opera to bite the dust will be General Hospital.
