What's happening on Saturday Night Live? [View all]
In case you somehow missed the news ... NBC's anchor comedy series "Saturday Night Live" will celebrate its 50th Anniversary this coming weekend!
On Saturday night (Feb. 15th) at the regular time, 11:30 p.m. EST, NBC will rebroadcast the FIRST episode of SNL with George Carlin, Janis Ian, Billy Preston and the original Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time-Players. This episode is almost never on network TV and rarely available in streaming. If you tune in this Saturday night, you'll probably notice that the 2024 movie "Saturday Night" gives a fairly accurate depiction of the chaos surrounding that inaugural production 50 years ago.
On Sunday evening (Feb. 16th) from 8:00 to 11 p.m. EST, NBC presents a 3-hour extravaganza with as many of the current and former stars as they can cram on the stage. There will be hundreds of our favorite comedy clips and videos through the years, and lots of performers and former guest-hosts. It's a DVR-must even if you need to record now in order to watch later. (I'm sure I'll want to see it many times.)
How many of these current and former stars can you identify? This NBC promo includes the "audition tapes" of young SNL cast members before they became our comedy heroes...
