4. My wife and I both spent an hour at the crack of dawn on Wednesday

and again today trying to get an appointment through the Publix website. Before that we wasted similar amounts of time trying to get appointments with the Health Department. My rough guess is there are around 200K people over 65 who are eligible to get the vaccine in this county. Publix gave out about 12K appointments in Pinellas this week. These Internet stampedes are a stupid way to schedule appointments and waste huge amounts of time. The Publix page refreshes every 60 seconds, so people have to sit and check their screens for about an hour, only to be told the appointments are fully booked. The Pinellas County Health Department says it is now doing second doses and is not offering new appointments. I don't trust anything this state does, but I don't think ineligible people are getting the vaccine at highly visible locations. There is a residency requirement, but what it would take to meet it would not be hard for a wealthy person to accomplish.

Jimmy Buffett's ode to deadending in Florida is the most brilliant rendition. Baitball Blogger Feb 2021 #2

Florida is getting rapidly worse, not better. Chainfire Feb 2021 #11
Yup. And it's going to take many of us to tell our stories so that newcomers can begin to understand Baitball Blogger Feb 2021 #12

I don't expect this thread to come up with good testimonials. Baitball Blogger Feb 2021 #6
That's what I meant about "highly visible locations." rzemanfl Feb 2021 #7
But in matters of safety, health and welfare, it shouldn't be that way, should it? Baitball Blogger Feb 2021 #8
It shouldn't. rzemanfl Feb 2021 #9

I like the idea of them calling & me not having to jump through hoops trying to get an appointment. William769 Feb 2021 #29
They don't want uniformity because it will upset the entire patronage and barter system Baitball Blogger Feb 2021 #30
