They see themselves as damaged, sinful and undeserving. They have been taught that they have been victimized by the government, the media, by people who look or dress or speak differently. It gives them a false sense of authority over the privileged and powerful to accept and forgive one of their own. They believe every word of the false apologies and acts of atonement. Just ask Jim and Tammy Faye.
