STORM LAKE - A look inside the struggling local news business (Documentary) [View all]

The Storm Lake Times is a family-run newspaper chiefed by Art Cullen, a pulitzer-winning reporter who believes that good journalism can change the world.

All around him, local newspapers and stores are being taken over by commercial conglomerates. Yet he remains determined to provide quality news twice-weekly to his community of 3,000 readers.

Half of all counties in the United States have just one local newspaper remaining. Some 200 have none at all. News on social media is often a firepit of mis- and disinformation. The story of The Storm Lake Times illustrates why local journalism matters in our increasingly digitised and globalised world.
