They really are the know nothing party. They literally know nothing, don't care to know anything, and are quite proud of their willful ignorance. In fact, they'd rather "know" intentional falsehoods as long as they coincide with their bizarre world view. Jefferson was so adamant about an informed electorate, I wonder if he ever imagined an entire political party that's grossly uninformed and likes it that way, representing a section of the populace with barely the sense to tie their own shoes. Then again, maybe that was his whole point. Political hacks will pander to the ignorant to the detriment of us all.
