They also have a variety of tools available, like School Library Journal, that offer professional help with selection.

Amateurs have no business selecting books. Fuck that noise.

I subbed quite often in a school library that had an aide rather than a trained librarian running things. She did the selection. She had a year of college and a little bit of training. Her collection was slanted toward fantasy and books girls liked. It was a shame. It may have kept boys and readers with other interests out of the library and away from reading.
