Massachusetts: DNA Match Made in Strangler Case [View all]

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/20/us/massachusetts-dna-match-made-in-strangler-case.html?_r=0

Law enforcement officials in Boston on Friday announced that the remains of a man who confessed he was the Boston Strangler match the DNA profile of seminal fluid found at the last of the crime scenes attributed to the serial killer.

Although Albert DeSalvo, a convicted rapist, confessed to the strangler murders, he was killed in prison and never prosecuted for them. Scientists recently extracted a DNA profile from seminal fluid found on and near the body of Mary Sullivan, who was strangled in 1964. After finding a familial match between that sample and one taken from a nephew of Mr. DeSalvo, investigators last week exhumed Mr. DeSalvo’s body to confirm the match.
