Like everything else, he'll have to weigh the issues, look at his lead, look at the voter snapshot, and make his call. If he's so far out in front he can't be caught, he'll evolve sooner. If it's a horse race up to November, we'll hear the evolution in his Inaugural Address.

It's a clever positioning by EW--she is seen as "pushing" Obama and that's good for her, even though it is entirely likely that this positioning is happening with some element of WH coordination, if not advice and consent. She needs to get ahead of Scott Brown on this issue, which isn't all that hard to do.
