Federal charges are on file against a St. Joseph couple for alleged unlawful entry into the U.S. Capitol and other actions on Jan. 6, 2021, a court official confirmed Thursday.
An FBI agent filed a criminal complaint on Monday, via affidavit, concerning Kim and Steven Dragoo. A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney for the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia confirmed that this affidavit represents charges have been filed. Four misdemeanor counts each apply to Kim and Steven, who live in the South Side of St. Joseph. No arrests have been made in the case, according to the U.S. attorneys office.
The pair had traveled to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 to join then-President Donald Trumps Stop the Steal rally, where Trump falsely claimed he had won the 2020 presidential election. A riot of people at the rally ensued throughout the Capitol grounds.
(Security camera) footage shows that Kimberly Dragoo and Steven Dragoo entered the U.S. Capitol at approximately 3:15 p.m. (Jan 6, 2021), through a broken window near the Senate Wing door of the U.S. Capitol, the affidavit reads. (Footage) shows the Dragoos exited the U.S. Capitol through the Senate Wing Door less than two minutes later at 3:16 p.m. As seen in the footage, before leaving, the Dragoos saw law enforcement officers attempting to barricade the window they had just entered and directing rioters out of the building.
