on the Nassau County border - thought the same thing. My husband grew up in NJ. When employment circumstances deemed it necessary to move here I went kicking and screaming! Some of my NYC friends said that they would refuse to cross the river to visit me. (they were just teasing)

It was culture shock indeed, but in a good way.
