to act victimized (with a straight face) by a rent increase, when for the last 70 years, your family paid a grand total of $1,750 in rent. In total, that is, not per annum.

And I would be gobsmacked if some of the houses along the bridge aren't being illegally sublet to other people, turning the houses into an income stream for the tenants of record. Amtrak would never know the difference.
