Justin Bieber portion of New York State Fair sand sculpture damaged [View all]

GEDDES, N.Y. -- Someone damaged the part of the sand sculpture at the New York State Fair that depicts singer Justin Bieber.

Dave Bullard, speaking for the fair, said someone had apparently damaged the sculpture Thursday evening. It wasn't clear who caused the damage, he said.

For the last eight years a new sand sculpture has been created each fair. This year, 180 tons of sand was piled up in the Center of Progress building for the sculpture.

This year's sculpture pays tribute to the scores of artists who performed at the fair's Mohegan Sun Grandstand, which was imploded in January. The 22-year-old Canadian star performed there in 2010 before a crowd of 17,000 people.
