DeWine signed the new voter suppression law. Here's the thing about that. [View all]

Sure, he's taking away some early voting and limiting each county to a single drop box at the Board of Election, but what about the photo ID law? Everybody has to show a valid state issued photo ID to get a ballot.

What about a single mother who gets a ride from a family member to the store and doctor appointments because she never learned to drive and can't afford a car or insurance if she did.?

What about the hapless soul who stands accused of driving under the influence? Might not be guilty, but their drivers license is confiscated immediately and sent to Columbus, never to be seen again, often for a year or more when they can apply for a reinstated one.

In either case it's going to cost $15 to $25 to get a photo ID in order to vote in the Land Of Free Elections. If that's not a poll tax someone will have to explain why not.

If we need a photo ID to vote, then it should be up to the state of Ohio to offer one free of charge. At a minimum.
