But what will replace it? That hard-core 24% of mostly authoritarian social conservatives isn't going anywhere and will continue to be a force.

Btw, scientists say that, generally speaking, voters first choose their group identity, then accept the group's choice of leader, and then adopt the leader's ideology. Shocking. That must be a far stronger pattern among authoritarians, but it basically applies to electorates in general. And people who want to take over and/or destroy nations know it.
