Marsha Blackburn, Gloria Johnson make closing arguments to voters [View all]

Johnson has crisscrossed the state seeking to spark a blue revival, galvanized by a rise to national prominence during an attempted expulsion from the state House last spring. She has sought to paint Blackburn as out of touch with Tennessee voters and beholden to special interests, while pledging to make health care more affordable, restore abortion access, pass gun safety laws, and increase public school funding.

“Tennessee voters deserve better than Marsha Blackburn," Johnson told The Tennessean. "The people of Tennessee deserve a U.S. Senator who is fighting for families, not corporate lobbyists and the wealthy few."

"As U.S. Senator, I will fight to bring down healthcare costs for Tennessee families, ensure Tennesseans can earn a livable wage in our state and restore a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions," she said. "I have always stood tall for Tennessee and will continue to do so as a U.S. Senator.”

Blackburn has largely ignored her opponent throughout the campaign, opting instead to criticize the Biden-Harris administration and focus on some of the big topics animating Republican voters not just in Tennessee but across the nation: border security, transgender issues, and support for former President Donald Trump.
