Back in the 90s I worked for a NE state. Asked about a new gas-fired power plant. Was told by a colleague it wasn’t running. Gas prices were so high the plant sold its gas contract, bought electricity on the spot market to cover itself and pocketed a nice profit (for not running).

Yea, markets are wacky like that.
