Gov. Phil Scott announces first loosening of business restrictions [View all]

MONTPELIER — As COVID-19 continues to trend in a better-than-expected direction in Vermont, Gov. Phil Scott on Friday announced the first loosening of economic restrictions issued in connection with the disease and identified a framework for the state to plan gradual re-opening.

"...I want to be clear — we're not declaring victory," Scott said at a scheduled press conference on Friday. "Because we're not out of the woods yet. But we are seeing some daylight."

It's important to understand that the state will only continue to see positive trends if people remain committed to social distancing measures like staying home and wearing masks, Scott said.

"If we continue to do this, we can take small steps to get more Vermonters back to work," he said. "As I've said before, this will not be the opening of the floodgates. This work will take just as much commitment as we've had over the last month, maybe even more."
