A video of a public comment at a Page County School Board meeting where a parent said she "will bring every single gun loaded and ready" if her children have to wear masks in school has prompted a police investigation and an increased police presence at the division's schools Friday and Monday.
At 7 p.m. Friday, The Luray Police Department announced they have charged Amelia Ruffner King, 42, of Luray, with a violation of the Code of Virginia 18.2-60 Oral Threat While on School Property. The magistrate has released Mrs. King on a $5,000.00 unsecured bond, according to police.
"Any person who orally makes a threat to any employee of any elementary, middle or secondary school, while on a school bus, on school property or at a school-sponsored activity, to kill or to do bodily injury to such person, is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor," according to Virginia Code.
Page County School Board held the meeting Thursday to discuss Gov. Glenn Youngkin's executive order, giving parents a choice for their children to wear masks at school.
