Crypto-financed independent expenditure for Emily Randall turns heads in Washington State politics [View all]

A pro-cryptocurrency political action committee has locked in a $1.4 million ad buy boosting Washington State Senator Emily Randall’s campaign to replace retiring Representative Derek Kilmer in the 6th Congressional District.

The ad praises Randall’s leadership in the Washington State Senate and her endorsements from Planned Parenthood and United States Senator Patty Murray (D‑WA). Spots will run in the Seattle media market on local broadcast news channels as well as CNN and MSNBC, two networks with Democratic-leaning audiences.

The political action committee, Protect Progress, is funded by prominent crypto firm Coinbase and Silicon Valley executives Marc Andreesen and Ben Horowitz, both of whom have endorsed neofascist Donald Trump for the presidency.

Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz, who is also running for the seat, criticized Protect Progress as a “MAGA-funded Super PAC,” and accused Randall of having “sold out the district to the highest bidder.”
