- Ludendorff Bridgehead at Remagen, Germany & Aftermath of the Bridge Collapse 1945. - On to Berlin.

Short clips about the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen captured by elements of the 9th Armored Division on March 7, 1945 giving the Allies their first bridgehead across the Rhine river. The first part is a brief overview of the capture of the bridge while the 2nd part shows the aftermath of the collapse of the bridge.

- Ken Hechler was there, attached to the 9th Armored Division. His book, The Bridge at Remagen was made into a popular movie in 1969.

Germany tried to prevent the Allies from crossing the key Ludendorff Bridge or any other of the 40 bridges on the Rhine that were a pathway into the Reich's Heartland.

German forces rigged the Ludendorff Bridge with explosives and bombed it from above in desperation. But the Americans thwarted their attempts and managed to pass over the bridge and move into Deutschland. Taking the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen was a strategic and vital symbolic win for the Allies.
